Tomorrow wears a smile that nobody can use,

mocks the way I spend this now: keystrokes and wine,

sex and the desire for sex. He demands we lose

ourselves, stare in the mirror of his face sometimes,

question what we do in the light of computer

screens and in the tangles of sheets to deserve him.

Can’t we see he’s wearing his best smirk? Look closer

at us—at me, dressed in what I always dress in:

skin and skin. Even I’m tired of dragging this

outfit in front of my mirror. So, imagine

what Tomorrow thinks. If he asked, What have you missed

today? I couldn’t respond honestly, This wine,

her voice, some word, a particular scent,

without feeling silly, or at least, redundant.
